Job Description

We are the people who give possibilities purpose

BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Execution
• Lead the development and ongoing refinement of PI’s long-range strategy, integrating market dynamics, customer needs, competitive activity, technology trends, clinical evidence, and
enterprise priorities.
• Partner with the Worldwide President and PI Leadership Team to translate strategy into clear portfolio choices, investment priorities, strategic initiatives, and measurable outcomes.
• Lead the annual strategic review process and ensure alignment across platforms, regions, R&D, Clinical, Medical Affairs, Finance, Regulatory, Quality, Integrated Supply Chain, and Commercial teams.
• Provide objective, fact-based perspectives on portfolio tradeoffs, resource allocation, risk, and value-creation potential.

New Business Development and Inorganic Growth

• Define strategic theses and priority hunting grounds aligned to PI’s growth priorities across vascular and cancer care.
• Proactively source acquisition, investment, licensing, technology, and partnership opportunities through relationships with company executives, entrepreneurs, clinicians, inventors, universities,
venture and private-equity investors, investment bankers, advisers, and participants across the global MedTech ecosystem.
• Develop an external network of innovators, entrepreneurs, physicians, investors, bankers, industry partners, and other ecosystem participants to improve opportunity access and market insight.
• Lead initial screening and strategic fit assessment of opportunities, determining where PI should engage, monitor, partner, invest, or decline.

Opportunity Assessment, Diligence and Deal Support

• Lead integrated assessment of market attractiveness, customer need, competitive differentiation, technology maturity, clinical and regulatory pathway, intellectual property, commercial potential, financial returns, operational requirements, and risk.
• Develop decision-ready business cases, including market models, valuation scenarios, revenue and margin potential, investment requirements, key assumptions, sensitivities, and value-creation

plans.
• Present recommendations to PI, Segment, and enterprise senior leadership with clear strategic rationale and transparent risk assessment.
• Partner with Corporate Development and functional leaders through diligence, negotiation, approval, transaction execution, and transition planning.

Portfolio Governance, Integration and Value Realization

• Establish a rigorous PI Strategy and New Business Development operating model, including decision rights, governance, stage gates, evaluation criteria, portfolio reviews, funnel management, and executive reporting.
• Increase organizational clock speed by clarifying ownership, improving cross-functional coordination, and driving timely decisions while maintaining appropriate quality and risk discipline.
• Connect inorganic opportunities to organic pipeline strategy, platform roadmaps, clinical evidence plans, market access priorities, and commercialization requirements.
• Ensure integration considerations and value-creation requirements are incorporated early in opportunity assessment and decision-making.
• Provide continuity from strategic thesis through deal rationale, integration planning, and realization of intended strategic and financial outcomes.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Strategy and New Business Development team with deep market expertise, strong external networks, and disciplined analytical capability.
• Create a culture of enterprise thinking, constructive challenge, accountability, speed, collaboration, inclusion, and high ethical standards.
• Influence effectively without relying solely on formal authority and build alignment across diverse senior stakeholders.

Fiscal Responsibilities

• Own and manage the annual PI Strategy and New Business Development operating budget.
• Guide portfolio investment choices and resource allocation through disciplined strategic and financial analysis.
• Develop and challenge valuation models, financial returns, investment requirements, sensitivities, and value-creation assumptions.
• Ensure transaction-related spending, external-adviser support, and diligence investments are appropriately prioritized and governed.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, life sciences, finance, or a related field required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred.
• 12+ years of progressive strategy, business development, corporate development, portfolio management, or related experience, including significant leadership experience in medical devices or closely related healthcare technology.
• Deep understanding of medical-device markets, transaction dynamics, and product development requirements. Experience in peripheral vascular, venous, interventional oncology, biopsy, or
adjacent procedural markets strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing growth strategies and building actionable pipelines of inorganic opportunities.
• Proven experience leading complex opportunity assessments and cross-functional due diligence; direct experience supporting acquisitions, investments, licensing, partnerships, negotiations, and
integration is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build market models, evaluate strategic and financial attractiveness, andtranslate complex analysis into clear executive recommendations.
• Experience working across global markets and with senior enterprise leadership, boards, investment committees, or comparable governance bodies.
• Experience leading and developing high-performing teams and influencing across a complex matrixed organization.
• Experience in peripheral vascular, interventional oncology, medical devices, or adjacent clinical and technology markets is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Strategic and portfolio acumen across markets, platforms, technologies, and time horizons.
• Strong external orientation and ability to build trusted relationships across the innovation and investment ecosystem.
• Commercial and financial judgment that integrates customer, clinical, technology, financial, and execution considerations.
• Executive presence and enterprise influence; ability to constructively challenge assumptions and communicate complex matters clearly.
• Execution discipline, sound judgment, learning agility, and resilience in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
• Demonstrated commitment to talent development, inclusion, collaboration, accountability, ethics, and integrity.
• Ability to handle highly confidential information, work across time zones, and travel globally as business needs require.
