About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Workforce Capability Specialist.

The Workforce Capability Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the program workforce has absolute clarity on the capability standards required for success. This includes the development, implementation, and governance of all supporting artefacts—such as position descriptions, duty statements, and capability profiles—that outline the competencies and skills needed across the program.

This role is instrumental in building a workforce framework that is coherent, consistent, and aligned to the program’s job architecture and organisational design principles.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working. Based out of our Finders Street (South Australia) office, you will play a visible and high‑impact role in a growing sector, with the opportunity to influence, innovate, and drive real change.

The Workforce Capability Specialist will be responsible for leading the design, governance, and continuous improvement of workforce capability frameworks across the program. Success in this role relies on:

  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to understand current context and complexity, sharing best practice approach
  • Embedding and overseeing the program’s agreed job architecture framework, ensuring consistent application across all workforce segments.
  • Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date program‑specific position descriptions and duty statements, supporting clarity of roles and expectations.
  • Managing the development, implementation, and lifecycle governance of position descriptions aligned to the job architecture.
  • Designing, delivering, and embedding a program‑specific competency framework that supports current and future workforce capability needs.
  • Implementing and governing competency assessment tools applicable to both blue and white‑collar roles, ensuring a consistent, defensible approach to assessing capability.

About YOU

To be successful in this role, the Workforce Capability Specialist will possess:

  • In‑depth understanding of Organisation Development (OD) principles, including workforce design and capability uplift methodologies.
  • Strong expertise in job architecture, including frameworks, role families, and levels.
  • Experience designing or applying workforce capability frameworks, ensuring alignment between competencies, roles, and organisational requirements.
  • Understanding of Defence Suitably Qualified and Experience Person (SQEP) requirements, and how these translate into capability and role expectations across a program workforce.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Exceptional analytical, documentation, and governance skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance
