Role Description

BAE Systems have been contracted to undertake the design and build of a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC) to support the cyber defence of a major international defence programme. The information, systems and networks to be protected will be a mix of Microsoft Cloud services and on-premises data centres straddling multiple regions and classification levels.

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual with excellent technical and client-facing skills, to act as a combined Engineering, Test and Customer Acceptance Manager who manage the internal engineering lifecycle as well as planning and leading customer acceptance activities.

The role will range from input into design and implementation plans, authoring key engineering artefacts (e,g Engineering Management Plan, Test Strategy), resourcing of the engineering and wider team, advising on design, deploying and configuring new solutions, assessing existing deployments and client capabilities to make improvements and improve overall maturity, and working with the client to agree the basis for acceptance and defining the method for gaining it.

  • Responsible for ensuring the programmes engineering activities adhere to both internal and external expectations
  • Size and manage engineering team to meet project expectations
  • Task and People Management of Engineering Team
  • Define internal test strategy
  • Define and Agree Customer Acceptance Strategy and process
  • Lead Acceptance Activities with customer
  • Review and approve all required documentation as part of a release or change including design, deployment, configuration and administration guides.
  • Develop test procedures to test solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements

Core Duties

  • Extensive experience of large scale multi source programmes
  • Understanding of SOC programmes and Tech Stack
  • Self-motivated to understand tools that may not have been used before, researching and testing potential solutions.
  • Client-side consulting, including stakeholder engagement and the ability to communicate insights and concepts to others.
  • Negotiation with client to ensure acceptance is not unnecessarily delayed
  • Internal and External Stakeholder management
  • Team player and adept at working in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to help support and mentor team members where helpful.
  • Self-awareness and understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses.
  • It would be beneficial but not required to have the following skill: ISTQB Advanced Test Management

Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
