What you’ll be doing:

The role focuses on developing technical solutions to meet customer requirements for environmental testing, while also supporting business development by identifying and nurturing future sales opportunities. A key responsibility is maintaining efficient estimating processes to ensure rapid responses to requests for quotations. The position also serves as the primary technical point of contact for new opportunities, as well as for addressing customer concerns and complaints.

In addition, the role requires ensuring all safety considerations are addressed through pre-trial risk assessments and that testing is carried out to accredited standards. It involves providing technical oversight across delivery, sales, maintenance, and investment activities, with guidance on scheduling priorities based on technical risk. Collaboration with the Operations Manager is essential to develop a capability strategy for the facility and to identify investment opportunities that support its long-term growth.

Essential skills:

  • You will have in depth knowledge of dynamic testing vibration, shock and the associated standards that apply
  • You will have strong engineering and technical credentials within the environmental test area including knowledge and understanding of relevant standards (e.g. Def Stan 00-35) and you will have a sound understanding of structural dynamicsVibration – Sinusoidal, Random, Sine/Random
  • You will have the ability to perform complex engineering/technical assignments developing creative, yet practical solutions to customer problems, challenging conventional or traditional methods or procedures where required
  • You will have an understanding of uncertainty of measurement
  • You will have a proven record of communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels and leading teams

The Engineering team:

You will have technical management of the Environmental Test Facility (ETF) at Bishopton working with the business development team to deliver new orders with the Operations Manager to assure the successful operation of the capability. In addition, you will develop a Capability Development strategy to align with future market needs, and assure that the facility has a suitable Life Cycle Management (LCM) strategy in place to support it.
