Role Description:

We have an excellent opportunity for a SystemS Performance and Analysis Team Lead within the Defence Delivery Management LOB based in Adelaide.

As part of a growing need for new and upgraded OTHR capabilities, BAE Systems have developed advance System Performance analysis capabilities for OTHR. The System Performance and Analysis Team Lead will support the development and operational integration of advanced OTHR technology across our global programmes.

The role will be:

  • Central to the performance characterisation, modelling, validation, and optimisation of OTHR system elements throughout the program lifecycle.
  • A key leadership opportunity contributing to the delivery of a sovereign, world-class radar capability.
  • Supporting BAE Systems to influence the commonwealth and international government stakeholders as stewards for OTHR capability.

Core Duties:

  • Lead a team of radar engineers, physicists, data scientists, and modelling specialists
  • Oversee radar propagation modelling, target detection analysis, signal processing, and track performance characterisation
  • Manage the development and use of simulation and analysis environments, including technology trials
  • Interface with program partners including academia, government stakeholders (e.g. DSTG, ADoD, DRDC and NORAD), and system integrators
  • Develop and maintain a system performance analysis plan(s) aligned with capability objectives and key program needs
  • Mentor, supervise and manage a high-performing technical team, fostering domain excellence and innovation
  • Develop the team capabilities to provide coverage across all aspects of OTHR design and delivery across the business
  • Provide detailed reporting, briefings, and technical insights to program leadership and external stakeholders

About You

  • A background in radar systems, RF engineering, sensor fusion, or signal processing
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams in complex system development environments
  • Evidence of strong communications skills with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong skills in modelling and simulation, data analytics, and system performance evaluation
  • Experience in one or more of: OTHR, HF propagation, electronic warfare, space weather, ISR systems, or mission-level simulation is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with software tools such as MATLAB, Python, STK, or HF radar propagation models`

JORN, HF AND CANADA

The High Frequency Sensing team is part of the BAE Systems Defence Delivery Business Unit and delivers advanced Over The Horizon Radar (OTHR) capability across the full lifecycle, spanning acquisition, sustainment and research and development – with all design wholly undertaken within Australia. It brings together expertise in large and medium scale wide area surveillance systems to support sovereign capability and operational readiness for Australian and international export customers.

It is an exciting time to join the team with major upgrades occurring for Australian and US customer systems, evolving sustainment focus to ensure capability readiness for the Australian Defence Force customer, and mobilisation of a major export acquisition program to Canada, as well as future growth opportunities constantly on the go. Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) and Arctic Over The Horizon Radar

The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a connected series of three remote over-the-horizon radars (OTHR) located in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The state-of-the-art defence radar system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief, and rescue operations.

As the Australian Government’s Over The Horizon Radar (OTHR) industry partner for JORN, BAE Systems is looking to mobilise an exceptional team to support a ground-breaking Defence export opportunity for the nation.
