Role Description:

The Operations Centre is the central control subsystem for the JORN Over the Horizon Radar (OTHR) system, controlling the receive and transmit subsystems, as well as being the operator interface to the system. Reporting to the Operations Centre IPT Lead, you will manage the overall subsystem engineering integration of the operations centre within the agreed project technical, cost and schedule constraints. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the Operation Centre’s multiple product variants meeting both Australian and Canadian OTHR systems’ needs. This key role will be offered on a permanent and full time basis.

Core Duties:

  • Plan, conduct and test the system integration engineering activities, and manage the progress of those activities
  • Liaise with Software, Mission System and ICT teams to resolve technical issues
  • Lead and manage a small integration engineering team, coach and develop personnel, ensuring services provided meet business objectives
  • Act as a Control Account Manager (CAM), and manage budget and delivery scope responsibilities
  • Act as point of contact on system integration engineering activities, collaborate effectively and build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Apply ICT knowledge to achieve timely and fit for purpose delivery of required ICT
  • Engage with the end user to support live test events and troubleshooting of issues encountered

Essential Skills:

  • System integration and test experience in an ICT or software development environment
  • A tertiary engineering or ICT degree
  • People leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to manage a team and provide effective leadership, direction and motivation
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to effectively articulate complex problems to stakeholders
  • Exposure to containerisation and continuous integration pipelines
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, well organised, and good attention to detail
  • Whilst not essential, defence industry experience will be highly regarded

Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) and Arctic Over The Horizon Radar

The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a connected series of three remote over-the-horizon radars (OTHR) located in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The state-of-the-art defence radar system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief, and rescue operations.
