Role Description

As a Systems Administrator, you will play a key role within the Defence Delivery – Hosted Platforms team, supporting the delivery, maintenance, and continuous improvement of critical infrastructure services. In this role, you will gain exposure to a broad range of technologies, including Windows and Linux servers, Citrix environments, hyper-converged infrastructure and data protection solutions.

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation, support, and maintenance of infrastructure services, ensuring incidents and service requests are resolved effectively and within agreed service levels. The role supports a diverse technology environment, including Windows, Linux and storage platforms, while driving service improvements through automation, process optimisation, and robust documentation. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, the Systems Administrator helps deliver secure, reliable, and compliant infrastructure services that meet both business and customer requirements.

Core Duties:

  • Administer, maintain, and optimise infrastructure environments to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Monitor system and application health, proactively identifying, investigating, and resolving incidents, risks, and performance issues.
  • Implement security best practices, including system hardening, patch management, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using scripting and tools such as Ansible, SCCM, and other infrastructure automation platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to design and deliver infrastructure solutions that meet business and operational requirements.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting capabilities to ensure the ongoing health, availability, and performance of services.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues, conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including operational procedures, system configurations, and support standards.
  • Share knowledge, support team capability development, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in infrastructure planning, technology refresh programs, and lifecycle management activities to support business objectives and operational excellence

About YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Windows Systems Administration (preferably 3 years or more)
  • Experience with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and user support.
  • Proficiency in Automation and scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell)
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g. SCCM)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Expertise in Linux distributions (e.g. Oracle Linux, RHEL and RedHat Satellite) along with Citrix environments would be an advantage
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an NV2 security clearance.
