Job Description:

As System Safety Team Leader within the Typhoon D&C System Safety Team, you will guide safety activities across a complex, high-profile avionics environment, helping to ensure the continued safe development and operation of Typhoon capability. Working across software, hardware and system-level safety, you will support hazard analysis, safety assessment evidence and in-service safety investigations for key Line Replaceable Items, including cockpit interface, symbol generation and helmet equipment technologies.

This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with development teams, specialist safety colleagues, suppliers, Eurofighter, NETMA and customer-facing teams. You will contribute to innovative defence engineering, influence safety-critical outcomes and develop your leadership, technical and stakeholder skills within BAE Systems.

Core duties:

  • Coordinate in-service safety queries and incidents, coordinating investigations, responses and stakeholder communication

Essential Skills:

  • STEM degree or equivalent practical experience within aircraft engineering projects or closely related technical environments
  • Demonstratable system safety experience, including Hazard Analysis, Safety Cases, FTA, FMECA, and criticality assessments
  • Considerable understanding of the ‘V’ lifecycle, systems engineering values, and structured development processes
  • Working knowledge of IBM Statemate and Ada programming for safety-critical systems or engineering applications
  • Practical experience using Reliability Workbench to support reliability modelling, assessment, and safety evaluation

The System Safety Team:

Supporting critical Typhoon avionics capability, this function leads product safety activities across advanced defence systems and software integration programmes. Working closely with international partners, suppliers and specialist engineering teams, it helps deliver safe, reliable and innovative solutions that support ongoing aircraft capability development and operational performance.
