Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect who thrives on solving complex business challenges through innovative technology solutions. This role is ideal for a strategic and hands-on architecture professional with proven experience designing and delivering end-to-end application architectures, defining technology roadmaps, and leading architecture initiatives across complex enterprise environments.

As a key member of the technology team, you will be responsible for shaping solution strategy, creating future-state architecture roadmaps, and ensuring technology investments align with business objectives. Working closely with business leaders, product owners, delivery teams, and technical specialists, you will translate business priorities into scalable, secure, and maintainable application architectures.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence technology direction, drive architectural modernisation, and lead the evolution of enterprise applications from current to future state.

The job location is flexible, it can be Melbourne, NSW or SA based. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

Core Duties:

  • Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end solution architectures for complex business and technology initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain application architecture roadmaps, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives and enterprise technology direction.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and delivery teams to understand business capabilities, requirements, and future growth opportunities.
  • Translate business requirements into practical, scalable, and secure architecture blueprints that support both immediate and long-term objectives.
  • Assess current-state applications and define future-state target architectures, including migration and transformation strategies.
  • Design solution architectures spanning applications, integrations, data, infrastructure, security, and cloud platforms.
  • Create and maintain architecture artefacts, including solution designs, reference architectures, architectural decisions, standards, and governance documentation.
  • Lead technical evaluation and selection of technologies, platforms, and architectural approaches to support business outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, modernise, and optimise application landscapes while reducing technical debt.
  • Define and promote architecture principles, standards, patterns, and best practices across project teams.
  • Support architecture governance processes, ensuring solutions meet enterprise standards, security requirements, and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful implementation of architectural designs.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends, providing recommendations that drive innovation and business value

About YOU

  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect within complex enterprise environments, delivering end-to-end technology solutions that align business objectives with strategic technology outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing application and solution architecture roadmaps across large-scale transformation initiatives.
  • Strong ability to understand complex business problems and translate them into practical, scalable, and sustainable technology solutions.
  • Proven experience acting as the bridge between business and technology teams, ensuring alignment between business strategy, operational requirements, and technical delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience engaging and influencing business and technology leaders at all organisational levels.
  • Experience guiding architecture decisions across multiple projects and programs while balancing business value, cost, risk, security, and technical complexity.
  • Demonstrated success supporting delivery teams throughout implementation to ensure solutions achieve intended business outcomes.
  • Proven ability to define current-state, future-state, and transition architectures for complex technology ecosystems.
  • Experience designing solutions across cloud and on-premises platforms, including application integration patterns and modern architecture approaches.
