JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The Senior Technical Specialist – General Systems and Support plays a crucial role in delivering technical expertise and support within the Aircraft Systems and Support function. This role is responsible for overseeing the technical management of general systems, including Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) and other support products, ensuring adherence to airworthiness standards and regulatory requirements. The position involves providing specialist support, troubleshooting, and system analysis to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Typhoon aircraft fleet, ensuring that RSAF’s operational and maintenance objectives are met

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Technical Expertise and Support:

  • Provide expert technical support for the operation and maintenance of aircraft General Systems and Support equipment, including AGE, powered vehicles, training rigs, test equipment, and special-to-type support equipment.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in General Systems, providing guidance and technical advice to the team, RSAF, and In-Kingdom Industrial Partners (IKIP).
  • Resolve technical issues by analysing system failures, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to enhance system reliability and performance.

Technical Request Management:

  • Review, prioritise, and manage Technical Requests (TRs) related to general systems and support products through the Team Centre Query resolution process.
  • Ensure TRs are addressed within service level agreements (SLAs) and ensure compliance with airworthiness and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including UK-based teams, to ensure technical issues are resolved in a timely and effective manner.

System Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor the performance of general systems and support equipment, identifying trends, potential failures, and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and submit regular technical reports, summarising TR activities, identifying system performance issues, and proposing solutions.

Training & Development:

  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching to RSAF and Saudi National Technical Specialists, ensuring continuous improvement in technical capabilities.
  • Develop and deliver specialised training programs on general systems and support products, ensuring RSAF personnel maintain high levels of proficiency.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Maintain effective communication with RSAF, IKIP, the Typhoon Design Support Team, the Typhoon Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), and the UK-based In-Service Support Team (ISST).
  • Lead technical support for special projects and collaborate with other teams to ensure the integration of General Systems into the broader operational framework.

Compliance and Process Improvement:

  • Ensure all activities comply with Continuing Airworthiness (CA) requirements, Approved Data requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimise technical operations, reduce downtime, and enhance system performance.

Safety and Risk Management:

  • Support the maintenance of the Safety Case for General Systems and Support operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Lead risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement risk mitigation strategies related to the operation and maintenance of general systems.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Have extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience supported by formal recorded OR extensive proven experience in relevant CA or maintenance related
  • Do you have substantial proven Typhoon experience either as Technical Services Senior Specialist OR Maintenance Senior Supervisor (3rd signature holder with Typhoon Q course)
  • Do you have substantial proven experience in a relevant Management role
  • Able to describe or demonstrate a Practitioner level of knowledge of Continuing Airworthiness and the aircraft types managed and a Practitioner level of knowledge of the aircraft maintenance environment.
  • A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC in a relevant technical discipline, or Part 66 Category C qualified, or National civilian / military equivalent and successful completion of a recognised national aircraft maintenance traineeship / apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent accepted to M&CA.
  • Strong knowledge of Typhoon aircraft systems, AGE, and associated support products, with experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable

  • Experience in managing Technical Requests (TRs) and using systems such as TeamCentre for Request resolution.
  • Should have and be able to demonstrate sound oral and written two-way communication skills with the ability to be tactful, discreet and confident in dealing with people at all levels.
  • Should be able to work on their own initiative to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Should have broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge.
  • Computer literate with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office suite.

RECRUITMENT

Essential:

  • Able to demonstrate a Practitioner level of skills in Technical Services and Technical Instructions management skills.
  • A proven ability to supervise personnel in a CA environment.
  • A Practitioner level of knowledge of the Typhoon platform, AGE and related support equipment.

Desirable:

  • Experience of BAESSA and Typhoon Part M/Part 145 operations.
  • Knowledge of Technical Request/Query (TR/TQ) process & Teamcentre PLM
