Job Description:

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Air Sector team based in Filton. This is a key leadership role, responsible for guiding a team of systems engineers and overseeing the technical delivery of complex aerospace programmes. Acting as the primary interface between engineering teams and programme management, you will ensure that system solutions are fully integrated, meet customer and regulatory requirements, and comply with industry standards and best practices. Combining strong systems engineering expertise with leadership and mentoring responsibilities, you will drive the systems engineering lifecycle from concept and requirements definition through to integration, verification, and validation. You will provide strategic technical direction, support the development of engineering capability, and make critical decisions that balance performance, safety, cost, and schedule to deliver innovative and effective aerospace solutions.

Core duties:

  • Systems Requirements Management. Develop, decompose, and manage system and subsystem requirements, ensuring full traceability.
  • Architecture & Design. Define system architectures and interfaces using a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach.
  • Integration & Verification. Lead verification and validation (V&V) activities, including test planning, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Compliance & Standards. Ensure adherence to aerospace standards, regulations, and systems engineering best practices.
  • Project Coordination. Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and act as a key technical interface with programme stakeholders.
  • Technical Leadership. Provide technical direction, manage engineering risks, and support key project decisions.
  • Team Leadership & Mentoring. Lead, coach, and develop Systems Engineers, fostering a high-performing engineering team.

Essential Skills:

  • Degree-qualified in a STEM discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, ideally within the aerospace sector.
  • Strong understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system architecture, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring a small team within a systems engineering environment.
  • Ability to apply systems engineering principles and methodologies to complex engineering projects.

The Systems Engineering Team:

You’ll join a collaborative and highly skilled Systems Engineering team supporting the delivery of complex aerospace programmes within our Air Sector business. Working alongside specialists from a range of engineering disciplines, you’ll play a key role in developing innovative system solutions that meet demanding customer and regulatory requirements. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and mentorship to Systems Engineers, helping to drive engineering excellence while working closely with programme management and key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. This is an environment that encourages collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on cutting-edge aerospace projects.
