From the depths of the ocean, to the far reaches of space, there’s no limit to where a career at BAE Systems could take you.

Job Description:

As a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering advanced avionics capabilities for the Eurofighter Typhoon, the UK’s primary multi-role combat aircraft. Working within a large, multi-disciplinary Avionics Systems team, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating engineering activities, ensuring effective integration across internal and external teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer requirements. This role offers broad exposure across the full engineering lifecycle, providing the opportunity to develop deep technical insight into Typhoon avionics while collaborating with a wide network of engineers, project managers and stakeholders across a complex, high-profile defence programme.

Core duties:

  • Utilise JIRA-based toolsets to maintain accurate and up-to-date programme data, providing clear and actionable inputs to Project Control teams
  • Represent the integration function at key reviews, communicating the impact of subsystem and test activities on the overall programme schedule and cost
  • Monitor programme risks and track the progress of mitigation activities, supporting effective deconfliction and resolution of issues
  • Provide technical and programme updates, including delivering briefings to the Avionics Systems Management Team and wider stakeholders
  • Support the coordination and deconfliction of integrated delivery strategies across key avionics product developments
  • Contribute to the oversight of product design, development, test and qualification activities, ensuring alignment with safety and programme requirements

Essential Skills:

  • Good knowledge of the Typhoon platform or experience working on comparable complex aerospace or defence systems
  • Experience using JIRA or similar Agile project management tools to support planning, tracking and delivery
  • Degree qualified in a STEM subject (e.g. Engineering, Aerospace) or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
  • Understanding of avionics systems and their integration within a complex engineering environment

The Avionics Systems Integration Team:

You will join a highly collaborative Avionics delivery environment working at the forefront of the Eurofighter Typhoon programme. The team is responsible for delivering complex avionics projects that are critical to aircraft capability, performance and operational effectiveness, working across the full lifecycle from design and development through to test and qualification.

You will work closely with the Avionics Joint Team, Cockpit Group and wider design and integration teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and in line with customer requirements. This includes coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines and ensuring alignment between subsystem activities, integrated programme plans and overall delivery objectives.

The role sits within a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment, where you will engage regularly with senior reviews and governance forums, providing technical insight, guidance and feedback to key stakeholders. You will play an important part in ensuring programme coherence, resolving integration challenges and supporting effective decision-making across the avionics portfolio.
