Job Description:

The PHUMS Engineer will support the FCAS/GCAP programme, contributing to the development of Prognostic Health Usage Monitoring System (PHUMS) approaches while applying modern engineering frameworks, standards, and tools. The role focuses on developing concepts and collaborating with customers and suppliers to define PHUMS requirements and specifications for prognostics, usage, and health management capabilities.

Core duties:

  • Working within an international team to develop Prognostic Health Usage Monitoring System (PHUMS) solutions, contributing to a complex, fast-paced programme
  • Supporting engagement with customers and industry experts to elicit and capture user and system requirements for FCAS & GCAP PHUMS
  • Contributing to concepts and approaches for end-to-end PHUMS implementation, management, and delivery for FCAS
  • Supporting PHUMS specification and requirements during design and development, and overseeing implementation into service
  • Contributing to lifecycle strategies and plans for PHUMS development and delivery
  • Ensuring integration of PHUMS with wider programme areas, including IT, digital, infrastructure, and air platform interfaces

Essential Skills:

  • HND (Level 5) or degree in a relevant STEM field, or equivalent engineering experience
  • Knowledge of diagnostic, prognostic, health, and usage monitoring (PHUMS) principles and techniques
  • Experience developing requirements and specifications for complex systems
  • Experience defining requirements for ground-based systems (e.g. off-board PHUMS)
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methods (e.g. MooD, CAMEO, SysML, MagicGrid)

The FCAS Supportability Engineering team:

A vacancy is available within the growing FCAS Supportability Engineering Team, offering the opportunity to influence both on-board PHUMS and testability design, as well as off-board PHUMS solutions. The next-generation combat air system at the heart of FCAS requires an equally advanced support solution, with an integrated PHUMS capability playing a key role in meeting customer performance and capability needs.
