Role Description:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager based in Adelaide.

This role also involves a 2-year secondment to BAE Systems Submarines (BAESS) in the UK, commencing in Q4 2026.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible developing a comprehensive understanding of the Manufacturing Systems of Work and applicability to the Australian context, on behalf of the Australian Submarine Builder.

Core Duties:

  • Undertake an international embed assignment to the UK to develop cross functional key stakeholder networks within BAESS
  • Facilitate an improved understanding by the Shipbuilder of the BAESS Manufacturing engineering governance arrangements, including, but not limited to, Build Strategy and Manufacturing Systems of Work
  • Ensure that the Shipbuilder Manufacturing Engineering (ME) capability is developed in line with the BAESS ME capability framework, thus ensuring both alignment between BAESS and the Shipbuilder to enable the effective use of skills and resources across the extended enterprise
  • Act as the authority for the Australian manufacturing requirements, working with the BAESS ME Authority – SSNA, to assure that the transferred design and method are consumable by the Shipbuilder
  • Act as the key interface between BAESS UK and the Shipbuilder ME embedded within the BAESS
  • On return to Australia;
    • provide expert advice in establishing the Shipbuilders Manufacturing Systems of Work
    • Support governance of Shipbuilder ME activities in accordance with BAESS framework

About You

  • Demonstrated prior Engineering Management knowledge and experience with formal Engineering experience (essential)
  • Proven track record in Senior Manager roles
  • Working knowledge of Defence project environments (highly desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications and experience satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (essential)
  • Demonstrated professional integrity, advanced level of technical knowledge and experience, objectivity, acceptance of responsibility and maturity of judgement
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain.
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations.
