Job title: Senior Engineer – Power & Propulsion

Location: Glasgow or Portsmouth. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £ 44,910 (depending on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carry out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability
  • Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained
  • Support the Principal engineer as the specialist point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
  • Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Strong technical knowledge of Power and Propulsion systems and equipment, and how they integrate with other ship systems
  • Experience in system and subsystem integration, ideally within a ship build / ship design environment
  • A good understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations

Desirable:

  • Specific knowledge of shaftline equipment, steering gear and active stabilisers
  • Experience within a highly regulated industry
  • Technical subcontractor management experience

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered

The Power and Propulsion Team:

As a Senior Engineer – Power & Propulsion you will assist with the development of Power and Propulsion systems, providing design input to the subcontractor and assurance that the architecture and detailed design are fit for purpose, ensuring technical viability and safe operation of specific auxiliary systems that the individual is responsible for.
