Job title: Senior Engineer – Additive Manufacturing (Research and Technology)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite, can be flexible.) We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £40,748+ dependant on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage and deliver Additive Manufacturing (AM) Research and Technology (R&T) projects within the business and with partner organisations
  • Work with the Senior Technologist – Additive Manufacturing to maintain and evolve the Additive Manufacturing Strategy and pipeline of projects with the R&T portfolio
  • Maintain technology watch of research and innovation of strategically important AM technologies
  • Identify and run additive manufacturing research and technology projects from the development of the proposal and planning through delivery, governance, and project close down
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation with engineering teams, operations, supply chain, and the technology management teams to deliver projects, seek input and promote the learning and benefits
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Additive Manufacturing Research and Technology Strategy and Framework
  • Develop strong working relationships with external partners such as universities and catapult centres to deliver research and technology projects, support the development of skills and knowledge within the organisation

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in a STEM subject/background
  • Demonstrable experience in R&T environment
  • Experience of project management
  • Knowledge of the various additive manufacturing processes
  • Experience of writing project proposals or business cases

Desirable

  • APM or Prince 2 qualification
  • Member of a professional engineering body

The Additive Manufacturing team:

You will be working within the recently formed Additive Manufacturing Team as part of the Materials Technology Department. As a team in its infancy, there is the opportunity to contribute to the direction going forward and develop personally alongside the team. Directly influence the development of the research and technology portfolio for additive manufacturing. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
