Job Description:

The Senior Commercial Officer – Central Function will support the Head of Commercial and Business Development (BD) Function in providing functional support and governance to the Commercial & Business Development functions. The role requires the co-ordination and management of those activities which are applicable to the entire Commercial and Business Development functions and not specific to a particular project/contract/team.

The Senior Commercial Officer – Central Function role holder will deliver specific capabilities or responsibilities on behalf of the function. These specific capabilities or responsibilities can be delivered supporting operational commercial challenges or activities associated with the management and coordination of the function, for example functional governance, functional training, and functional strategic resource planning.

Core duties:

  • Process Improvement, Governance and Process Management
  • Functional Enablement including support to Digital Toolset Deployment and Exploitation
  • Functional Reporting and business reporting interface
  • Role regularly interfaces with Commercial and Business Development function including senior leaders, and also across all business functions

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in a commercial, contract management, or business role, ideally within defence, aerospace, engineering, or government contracting. (Understanding of the roles of the Commercial & Business Development, contract management principles and commercial fundamentals)
  • Efficient, Strong organisational skills and dedicated to providing high quality outputs from every task
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders

Central Function Team:

This is a small core team that supports the commercial and business development function, handling multiple parallel tasks to ensure delivery of commitments while enabling future growth. The role involves supporting the digitisation of the function and collaborating across the entire business, requiring the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team, using personal experience, judgement, and initiative. It spans key functional areas including people, processes, and tools, with a highly dynamic environment where no two days are the same and strong multitasking is essential, alongside offering the opportunity to actively contribute to and shape the future of the function.
