About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Commercial Officer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based in Melbourne or Adelaide reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager.

As a Senior Commercial Officer, you will be a member of the project team, working closely with Project Managers and functional SME’s across the business, demonstrating a strong ability to partner with the business to achieve the desired outcomes. You will provide guidance to and support the development of individuals in more junior roles and will have a strong awareness and a strong level of knowledge and experience of Commercial policy and practice, working collaboratively with colleagues.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining both internal and external stakeholder relationships (including those with customers and other third parties)
  • Support to all contract activity including the drafting and negotiation of complex terms and conditions and associated agreements with customers ensuring the interests of BAE Systems Australia
  • Manage contact activities including negotiation of contract change and management of claims, with minimal supervision
  • Support to all Contract and Bid Status Reviews to justify, explain and clear ongoing commercial contract activities
  • Support to all commercial agreements to support team activity
  • Draft moderately complex contracts / agreements with little supervision
  • Ensuring adherence to commercial and other relevant corporate governance requirements

About YOU

  • Relevant experience that has provided you with a good understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Senior Commercial Officer
  • Team orientation with a high level of written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and from a range of disciplines
  • A curious mind-set and ability to solve problems with a can-do attitude
  • An ability to work as part of a team or independently with little supervision and guidance, using your own experience, judgement and initiative
  • An ability to lead or support moderately complex negotiations.
  • Adept at building and maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexible and agile with a lean in approach
  • Computer literacy, with intermediate knowledge of MS Suite. Familiarity with tools like SharePoint and Oracle is desirable
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications desirable
