Job Description:

Assist the Technical Lead in producing and developing multi-layered designs and compartment layouts in line with specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. Conduct detailed design appraisals across assigned ship areas to ensure design intent is fully maintained.

Support installation, set-to-work, trials, and acceptance activities. Investigate system obsolescence affecting installed ship components, while continuously developing skills to provide technical support across disciplines and promote best practices to improve processes.

Core duties:

  • Develops and maintains skills and capabilities to be able to provide technical support and knowledge to other design Disciplines as required. (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices and processes).
  • Assist with the production / maintenance of design artefacts in support of Detail Designers to ensure that Combat Systems compartment layouts are viable and in line with design intent.
  • Provide support to resolution of technical issues through Installation, Setting to Work and Trials activities.
  • Applies Systems Engineering and Lifecycle Management Processes to ensure design viability.

Essential Skills:

  • You will bring an HNC/HND in an engineering or scientific discipline (or equivalent experience), demonstrating a good technical foundation.
  • You will have a solid understanding of the systems engineering design lifecycle and how it applies in practice.
  • You will have experience in system physical and functional integration across design, build, commissioning, and acceptance within a highly regulated environment.

The Combat Systems Physical Integration Team:

Join the Type 26 Combat Systems Team, working across the full ship lifecycle and multiple platforms. The team covers gunnery, communications, sensors, infrastructure, and navigation, supporting everything from concept to sea trials while guiding technical change and obsolescence to deliver next-generation Royal Navy frigates.
