About the OPPORTUNITY

We currently have a new and exciting opportunity for Quality Control Officer (Welding Inspector) to join our Maritime Australia business based at Osborne, SA.

The Quality Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all Fabrication and Welding work performed during Maritime Sustainment Engineering and Maintenance scopes of work is compliant with all applicable Codes / Standards and meets the requirements of all Engineering Drawings and Specifications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct daily surveillance/visual inspections on mechanical and fabricated products on site and when required at supplier facilities to ensure that all work complies in accordance with approved work orders, codes, standards and specifications
  • Review and monitor all quality records required (work packs, manufacturer’s data reports, mandatory planned maintenance items, Closing Reports and Task Progression Completion Certificates (TPCCs)) to ensure acceptance by the customer
  • Provide quality support and guidance to other departments while helping to create a team culture through open communication and working together to problem solve creating a good quality culture
  • Mentor and coach production staff and suppliers on the required level of workmanship as defined by the products drawings, specifications, standards and policies fostering a “right first time” culture
  • Report and manage nonconforming issues in accordance with processes to ensure that all nonconforming issues are identified, segregated and reported
  • Ensure all objective quality evidence is complete and accurate upon review and completion of all scopes of work
  • Provide guidance to the Production Fabrication / Welding departments promoting product Safety and to ensure all Quality requirements are met.
  • Conduct Visual Inspections on completed Weldments to ensure all Welds meet the requirement of their Design and are fully Compliant to the applicable Codes / Standards.
  • Monitor the Welding Operators ensuring they are fully compliant to the Approved WPS’s issued for Production Welding.
  • Monitor and Record the Fabrication Weld Joint Fit-Up ensuring full Compliance to the Approved WPS
  • Complete the Production Weld Records for submission to the QA/QC Lead
  • Liaise / Escort the NDT Company representatives to ensure all NDT is completed as per the NDT request and NDT OQE is captured and managed

About YOU

  • Certification / Diplomas (CSWIP 3.1 / IWS / IWI-B/S etc) from Independent Bodies for Inspection relating to the Fabrication / Welding Trades across all Sectors.
  • NDT Level 2/3 certification (highly desirable)
  • Proven Experience in all aspects of Inspection related to the Metal Fabrication Trades.
  • A thorough understanding of all Applicable Codes and Standards utilized in the Fabrication / Welding of Steel Structures and Pressure Equipment.
  • Proven Experience in working to a Quality Management System
  • Internal auditor certification and/or previous experience leading audits (highly desirable)
  • Maritime / Ship building or Maintenance experience (highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in a large production/operation environment
  • Intermediate skills in MS Excel, Word and Visio
  • A strong understanding and knowledge of quality assurance standards
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
