Role Description
We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Project Manager to support our AUKUS Program, embedded within the Operations Project Management and Manufacturing Engineering (ME) teams. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager – Operations with a dotted line to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, you’ll centralise PM activities across the ME function to drive consistent governance, readiness, and integration.
We’re looking for an experienced PM who can deliver in complex manufacturing engineering environments, who excels in collaboration and navigating change. Based at our Flinders Street offices in Adelaide CBD with hybrid working flexibility, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact at a critical program mobilisation phase.
Note: some after-hours availability is required for weekly engagement with BAE Systems UK counterparts. We can offer flexible start and finish times to help balance work and life including a 9 day fortnight.
Core Duties
- Lead integrated planning, scheduling, and resource coordination for ME work packages
- Maintain schedules aligned to program milestones, production readiness, and contractual commitments
- Monitor progress, identify risks and dependencies, and escalate issues as required
- Support governance and reporting cycles with accurate status updates and milestone tracking
- Ensure PM approach aligns with LCM framework and BAES Australia policies
- Develop and collate bids and estimates for the ME function
- Manage Control Account baselines, budget changes, and Contract Change Proposals
- Actively manage project risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies
- Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain action, issue, assumption, and decision logs to support delivery assurance
- Provide PM support for ad-hoc and emergent project activity
Essential Skills
- Strong project management experience in an engineering environment
- Qualification in Engineering and/or Project Management (highly desirable)
- Ability to translate strategy into clear objectives and deliverables
- Ability to engage with BAE UK counterparts for evening meetings.
- Skilled at balancing competing priorities across customer and business needs
- Commercial acumen with broader business context awareness
- Sharp stakeholder management and communication skills across varied audiences
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous program environments
- Defence security clearance (or eligibility to obtain)
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
- Complete and pass a nuclear mindset assessment
The AUKUS team
In early 2024, the Australian Government selected BAE Systems and ASC Pty Ltd to build Australia’s new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines in a significant development in the AUKUS trilateral security pact between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.
