About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our Maritime Sustainment program delivery team based at Osborne Naval Shipyard, SA.

The Project Manager will effectively engage stakeholders, lead a project team (may include industry partners) and manage sub-contractors/ consultants to achieve the required customer and company outcomes for straightforward to complex projects through the application of Project Management (PM) disciplines in accordance with the BAE Systems Australia PM framework.

In the conduct of assigned duties, the Project Manager must maintain the goodwill of the customer, industry partners, BAE Systems Australia management and provide effective leadership to the project team. The role requires International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) eligibility.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivery of projects that are straightforward to complex in nature
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to more junior project managers
  • Foster a positive and collaborative culture between key project stakeholders and the project team including the customer, industry partners, sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Build and maintain a trusted relationship with the customer by being a focal point for customer contact
  • Lead the project team to ensure timely activity, integration and efficient use of time and resources to meet requirements
  • Ensure all project requirements and/ or objectives are properly documented in a business case and/ or project brief, as appropriate and vigorously pursued
  • Establish appropriate key success indicators and recommend trade-offs between scope, quality, time and cost
  • Ensure that products and services delivered as part of a project are in accordance with the Product Safety Policy and provide customer satisfaction
  • Identify project opportunities and risks and develop mitigation strategies for pursuit throughout contract phases. Monitor and report on the status of risks and opportunities
  • Provide direction to, and motivate, the project team
  • Identify and address training and development needs for the project team
  • Complete all closure and wrap-up activities upon project completion including lessons learnt

About YOU

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management (desirable but not essential)
  • Demonstrated experience in project management on significant programs
  • Ability to problem solve and work autonomously to deliver outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate strategy/purpose and link to objectives and project deliverables.
  • Proven ability to negotiate with and influence internal and / or external stakeholders in a way which generates project / program benefit whilst maintaining key relationships.
  • Proven ability to think innovatively and to plan strategically.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to use and adapt written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of different audiences.
  • Current NV1 defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
