Job Description:

This role leads the development and application of effective Project Control strategies, managing a team of specialists to deliver accurate progress and performance insight. It requires extensive project knowledge, good cross-functional collaboration, and deep expertise in Project Control methodologies, governance frameworks, and stakeholder engagement.

You will be accountable for embedding tailored Project Control practices, supervising a team of up to seven and ensuring consistent quality across all outputs. You will provide technical guidance, drive the sharing of best practice, and support performance management through coaching, oversight, and good governance application.

Core Duties:

  • Develop and embed tailored Project Control strategies across multiple large-scale projects
  • Act as the specialist authority for scheduling, ensuring the development of accurate, logical, and traceable programme schedules
  • Work closely with Engineering, Programme Management, Finance, and wider functions to ensure cohesive delivery and shared understanding of project priorities
  • Ensure accurate forecasting, performance tracking, and analysis across cost, schedule, risk, and resource
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of up to seven Controllers, ensuring capability growth and high performance
  • Promote the adoption of best practice and support the continuous improvement of Project Control discipline and governance

Essential Skills:

  • You will have extensive experience in Project Controls within complex engineering, defence, or multi-disciplinary environments
  • You will have advanced knowledge of planning and scheduling processes, tools, and governance frameworks
  • You will have a University Degree, or a substantial amount of practical knowledge gained through experience
  • You will have a PM Qualification such as the APM Project Management Qualification
  • You will have proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams

By joining the team, you will collaborate with experienced colleagues and apply world‑class project control methodologies to support Portfolio Directors/Project Managers in delivering high‑profile, strategically important programmes across our Naval Ships Sector portfolios.

A key focus of the role is the establishment of new planning processes that connect engineering delivery tasking to the project control system. The role will provide expert scheduling leadership to drive this change, integrate cross functional ways of working, and develop repeatable processes that strengthen future project delivery.

This role also provides leadership to a team of approximately seven Project Controllers of differing grades and responsibilities, ensuring high quality delivery, robust governance, and the application of best practice methodologies.
