About the OPPORTUNITY

We have a great opportunity for a Project Accountant to join our Maritime Sustainment team. In this role, you will support the Maritime Sustainment Finance Lead in establishing and maintaining robust financial functions. You will ensure the integrity and transparency of all financial data, which is critical for effective planning and strategic decision-making.

This role can be based at our Garden Island or Liverpool Street offices in Sydney.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia such as a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supporting delivery of financial performance and building business knowledge and acumen
  • Acting as a trusted finance business partner within the program and cross-functional teams
  • Supporting delivery of project reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, month end, annual budgets, customer accrual reporting, weekly cashflow, Integrated Business Plan and bi-annual Commonwealth estimates
  • Supporting inputs into monthly Contract Status Reporting and Sales & Margin Trading Plans
  • Analytical review activities for reporting & planning, ensuring accuracy and integrity of all financial information presented to support informed decision making
  • Providing in-depth advice on intricate and challenging financial issues
  • Contributing to the improvement and enhancement of the data that we use and the information we share with key stakeholders
  • Upholding a strong governance culture, including compliance with Finance Policies, Accounting Standards and Customer contractual requirements

KEY CRITERIA:

  • Degree qualification as well as professional CA, CIMA or CPA qualification
  • A curious mind and the ability to think critically and challenge the status quo
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience of adapting these styles to audiences at varying organisational levels.
  • Previous experience working in a project environment would be highly regarded but not essential
  • Well-developed self-management skills and demonstrated ability to work under own initiative to deliver outputs to time and quality
  • High literacy and numeracy skills
  • MS Office skills, especially in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian International Framework of Reporting Standards (AIFRS)
  • Exposure to Oracle ERP or similar desirable
  • As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and either possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearances
