Job Description:

In this role, the successful candidate will support the development and maintenance of novel safety approaches within the Air Sector FalconWorks business – our centre for advanced research and technology development including our portfolio of uncrewed air systems. They will work closely with technical and engineering teams to ensure platform and system safety requirements are met and support platform safety certification through evaluation of designs, review of certification evidence, and development of safety arguments. The role involves assisting engineering teams in producing Preliminary Hazard Lists, Hazard Analyses, decomposition of safety requirements, and validation of supplier safety documentation. Additionally, the candidate will liaise with certification groups and customers to achieve project safety objectives and contribute to programme management activities, including estimates, project scheduling, progress reporting, and functional business reviews.

Core duties:

  • Support the development and maintenance of safety capability
  • Develop and maintain System Safety Plans, processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with technical and engineering teams to ensure platform and system safety requirements are met.
  • Support platform safety certification through design evaluation, certification evidence reviews and development of safety arguments.
  • Assist engineering teams with the production of Preliminary Hazard Lists and Hazard Analyses.
  • Support the decomposition and validation of safety requirements.
  • Review and validate supplier safety documentation.
  • Liaise with certification teams and customers to achieve project safety objectives.
  • Contribute to programme management activities including estimates, project scheduling, progress reporting and functional business reviews.
  • Support the continuous improvement of safety processes, procedures and capability within the organisation.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong experience in Product and System Safety, including safety standards, regulatory frameworks and Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience developing System Safety Programme Plans, hazard logs and conducting PHA, ZHA and system/sub-system hazard analyses.
  • Proven experience in a safety critical industry,
  • Experience providing Safety SME guidance across design, architecture and engineering activities.
  • Experience leading and developing engineering teams and embedding safety best practice.

Join the FalconWorks Systems Engineering Integration Team and lead a highly skilled group of safety specialists driving the delivery of functional system safety across cutting-edge aerospace projects. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you’ll provide expert guidance to engineering teams, ensuring that safety is embedded at every stage of platform design, integration, and certification. You’ll shape the team’s capability, mentor engineers, and influence best practices across the organisation, while contributing directly to the creation of certifiable, high-quality products aligned with Air Sector standards.
