Who we are:

Join BAE Systems and you’ll be part of something bigger. As a valued member of our global colleague network, you’ll bring your unique skills and perspectives to help pioneer progress and protect what matters most. You’ll be trusted to play your part in delivering the advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions of tomorrow, shaping a safer future, for all of us.

From the depths of the ocean, to the far reaches of space, there’s no limit to where a career at BAE Systems could take you.

Job Description:

The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role supporting the development of the future support solution for the Royal Air Force‘s European Common Radar System (ECRS)-equipped Typhoon aircraft. Working within the Electronic Warfare Solutions (EWS) environment, you will be involved in the early stages of the engineering lifecycle, collaborating with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to help define and deliver innovative support capabilities.

Core Duties:

  • Lead security-focused engineering working groups, coordinating activities across internal teams, customers, and external partners.
  • Define and deliver security solutions, ensuring requirements, technical documentation, and interface specifications are developed and maintained effectively.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee engineering activities to ensure delivery against programme schedules and milestones.
  • Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams, supporting the successful integration of security capabilities into the wider solution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government, military, industry, and supplier organisations.
  • Represent the programme at security and technical governance forums, influencing decisions and ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with wider aircraft and mission systems teams to ensure security solutions are integrated and aligned with broader programme objectives.
  • Lead security-related design reviews and engineering lifecycle activities, ensuring solutions meet technical, regulatory, and customer requirements.

Essential Skills:

  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of security and cyber engineering principles, including relevant standards, frameworks, regulations, and assurance processes.
  • Experience working with avionics, electronic warfare (EW), mission systems, or other complex defence systems.
  • Understanding of security requirements development, technical documentation, and systems integration activities.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Strong knowledge of the engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, design, integration, verification, validation, and in-service support.

The ECRS Mk2 Ground Support Solution Team:

The ECRS Mk2 Ground Support Solution Team sits within the Electronic Warfare Solutions (EWS) organisation and is responsible for developing the future support solution for the Royal Air Force‘s ECRS Mk2-equipped Typhoon fleet. Working at the forefront of advanced radar and mission support capability development, the team collaborates closely with engineering specialists, customers, suppliers, and key defence stakeholders to define and deliver secure, integrated support solutions.

The team operates across the early stages of the engineering lifecycle, shaping how mission data is generated, evaluated, validated, and used to support operational effectiveness. Engineers work in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with organisations such as the RAF, UK Ministry of Defence, industry suppliers, and security authorities to develop innovative solutions for one of the UK’s most advanced defence programmes. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team delivering cutting-edge capabilities that will support the next generation of Typhoon operations.
