Job Description

Job Title: Principal Quality Engineer – Process & Governance

Location: Barrow-in-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £42,215+ depending on skills & experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting the de-risking of integrated control systems prior to their release to the boat

  • Maintaining and reporting Quality Metrics

  • Developing and deploying process and documentation

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of the Audit & Assurance schedule and management of resultant actions

  • Providing advice, support and coaching to teams within the Test & Facilities function

  • Acting as a Process Owner for key Test & Facilities Capability (T&FC) organisation

  • Performing administrative and/or super-user duties for Toolsets

  • Deputizing for Process & Governance Quality lead when required

  • Representing and promoting T&FC Quality at working groups

  • Supervising Early Careers colleagues

Your skills and experience:

  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 standard

  • Broad understanding of Quality tools & techniques including Audit & Assurance, Action Management, Performance management and Continuous improvement

  • HNC qualified in a science or engineering-based discipline, or equivalent experience in a Quality role

  • LRQA trained internal auditor or equivalent

  • Leadership experience would be beneficial

The Test & Facilities Process and Governance team:

You’ll be joining an established and growing team, with plans to expand as we develop new facilities and capabilities. This is a unique role within the shipbuilding environment, focused on supporting a test facility that ensures complex integrated systems — such as vehicle control and communications — function correctly together before reaching the boat. In supporting this critical de-risking stage, the team offers excellent exposure across the wider business. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
