Platform Technician

Role Description:
The Platform Technician provides expert diagnostics, maintenance, and technical support across naval propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems, primarily for ANZAC-class platforms. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the role undertakes complex fault-finding, performance testing, and system optimisation. While not managing direct reports, the position serves as a key technical advisor, working closely with engineering teams, operational staff, and external stakeholders to ensure vessel safety, reliability, and readiness.
Core Duties:
- Deliver specialist diagnostics, maintenance, and performance testing across propulsion, power, and auxiliary systems
- Ensure all work meets high standards of safety, quality, accuracy, and compliance
- Provide technical expertise and guidance, supporting decision-making and maintenance approaches
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues
- Support system reliability and operational readiness, including urgent defect rectification
- Manage own workload and priorities effectively in dynamic, autonomous environments
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying issues and implementing better solutions
Essential Skills:
- Trade qualification or diploma in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
- Relevant Defence or maritime certifications aligned to propulsion and power systems
- Additional specialist training in gas turbine or naval systems
- Proven experience working with naval propulsion systems, ideally on ANZAC-class platforms
- Demonstrated expertise in power generation systems, including alternators and load testing
- Strong hands-on experience with gas turbine systems and associated control and monitoring equipment
- Demonstrated capability in complex fault diagnosis across mechanical and electrical systems
- Ability to operate effectively in autonomous, high-pressure, and operational environments
- Experience within the Royal Australian Navy, particularly in marine technical roles, is highly regarded
