Job Description:
The OT Application Support Engineer will support the operation, maintenance and ongoing development of the manufacturing (OT) environment, ensuring systems remain reliable, secure and fit for purpose. The role involves deploying new capabilities, supporting existing applications and infrastructure, and contributing to improvements across the OT environment.
Core duties:
- Support the development, enhancement and day-to-day operation of Operational Technology (OT) processes, applications and system integrations within a manufacturing environment
- Contribute across the OT system lifecycle — supporting requirements gathering, assisting with solution design, defining scope, producing documentation, assisting with testing, and helping deliver solutions into live operational use
- Apply existing technical knowledge while building OT-specific capability through structured training, hands-on experience and collaboration with experienced colleagues
- Work closely with operations, engineering, production teams and external vendors to understand business needs and translate them into effective OT solutions, regardless of depth of prior OT experience
- Use analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate application and process issues, support continuous improvement, and build an understanding of how OT systems integrate with plant equipment and wider business processes
Essential Skills:
- A broad technical understanding of IT and/or Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure and related technologies
- An understanding of industry and government security standards, policies and best practice guidance (such as NIST SP 800-82)
- Experience supporting or contributing to the delivery of manufacturing capabilities and projects
- Background in IT, automation or controls engineering within a manufacturing environment, or transferable experience supporting manufacturing systems
The Manufacturing Systems Competency team:
As part of a multidisciplinary Manufacturing Systems competency team, you will work closely with functional project managers, engineering and operations teams to deliver solutions into live manufacturing environments. The team focuses on deploying new OT capabilities, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and continuously improving how manufacturing systems integrate with plant equipment and wider business processes. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a background in IT, automation or controls engineering who is interested in developing their expertise within Operational Technology and manufacturing systems.
