Job Description:

This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of risk management across the UK defined benefits pensions schemes within BAE Systems. You will lead the development and delivery of the Risk Management Framework, ensuring compliance with The Pensions Regulator’s General Code of Practice and GDPR requirements, while working closely with trustees, stakeholders and external partners. The role offers significant exposure with pension scheme Trustee Directors and the chance to shape governance, assurance and risk practices across one of the UK’s largest pension schemes in a varied and impactful 2-year fixed-term contract.

Core duties:

  • Lead the development, implementation and ongoing ownership of the Risk Management Framework across all UK defined benefit pension schemes
  • Ensure compliance with The Pensions Regulator’s General Code of Practice, including completion of Own Risk Assessments, and act as the team’s lead on GDPR requirements
  • Oversee and coordinate risk governance, including the preparation and management of pension scheme risk registers and documentation
  • Facilitate and drive risk discussions with Trustee Directors, ensuring mitigating actions are agreed, tracked and delivered
  • Present risk updates and insights at Trustee meetings, supporting effective decision-making
  • Act as the key liaison for external service providers on assurance activity and governance matters
  • Lead the Pensions Assurance programme, monitoring progress against recommendations, including internal audit actions

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of working within the pensions industry
  • Knowledge of The Pensions Regulator’s Codes of Practice and governance requirements
  • Understanding of GDPR and data protection requirements within a regulated environment
  • Experience of contributing to or supporting governance, risk or assurance processes
  • Experience of improving or developing processes within a pensions or regulated environment

The Pensions Team:

You’ll join a collaborative and high-profile pensions team at BAE Systems, working closely with pensions teams colleagues and Trustee Directors across the UK defined benefit pension schemes. The team plays a key role in shaping and overseeing risk management, governance and assurance activity, offering a broad and varied remit. With exposure to senior decision-makers and involvement in a wide range of initiatives, this is an opportunity to be part of a team that sits at the heart of how one of the UK’s largest pension arrangements is governed and managed, within a challenging and rewarding 2-year fixed-term contract.
