Job Description
Job title: Modelling and Simulation Lead Engineer
Location: Warton
Salary: £54, 793 – £60,326 (Commensurate with skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead Modelling & Simulation and Synthetic Environment capability design and planning activities, spanning across live and synthetic domains as appropriate
- Working alongside Technical Authorities and domain governance specialists, such as Ground Test, Flight Test and Flight Operations, where required
- Managing and contributing to the generation of Modelling & Simulation processes compatible with the FalconWorks operating model, some of which may be highly novel due to the technologies involved
- Interfacing with internal and external suppliers and partners regarding business and technical integration
- Contributing to Technology Watch and Capability Development activities to identify new and emerging technologies that offer improvements to how Modelling & Simulation activities are performed
- Contributing technical content to Business Winning activities, including the development of business cases and proposals to steer software-related research and internal investment activities
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Working knowledge of at least some of the modelling and simulation standards and protocols as identified in the Defence Modelling and Simulation standards Profile (DMSP), particularly simulation interoperability protocols such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and Data Distribution Service (DDS)
- Software development using one or more high-level programming languages (e.g. C, C++, Java)
- Implementation of Synthetic Environment components e.g. visual systems, platform behavioural models, environment models, sensor models
Desirable:
- You will ideally have a recognised higher-level qualification in a STEM subject, and either have or be pursuing professional registration (e.g. IEng, CEng)
- Design and specification of federated Synthetic Environments using the Distributed Simulation Engineering and Execution Process (DSEEP)
- Practical application of Agile methods across the requirements capture, planning and execution phases of projects
- Running complex synthetic trials or demonstrations within a synthetic environment, potentially including integration with real-world assets
