Job Description:

As a Manufacturing Applications Development Engineer, you will be acting as a primary point of contact for a critical manufacturing application utilised in key F35 production facilities. You will also be providing day to day response at short notice to application, infrastructure and process issues, this will require regular liaison with business stakeholders, operations management, suppliers and application developers to formulate and deliver system enhancements to satisfy business needs and integrate with major investment/refurbishment projects.

Core duties:

  • Supporting the development, enhancement and day-to-day operation of critical Cutting Tool management processes, applications and system integrations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Contributing and leading activities across the application development lifecycle – requirements gathering, solution design, defining scope, producing documentation, testing, and helping deliver solutions into live operational use
  • Applying existing manufacturing and technical knowledge to deliver bespoke solutions to specific business needs
  • Working closely with operations, engineering, production teams and external vendors and developers to understand business requirements, translating them into effective application and technical solutions
  • Applying analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate application and process issues, support continuous improvement and collaborate with other team members to grow the collective knowledge base

Essential Skills:

  • Background in IT, CNC/NC Manufacture or manufacturing engineering within a manufacturing environment, or transferable experience supporting manufacturing systems based on SQL databases
  • A broad, technical knowledge of CNC/NC (Numerical Control) manufacturing processes, cutter definition, tool assembly management, tool cycle, presetting processes and the associated digital communications
  • Detailed knowledge of the TDM (Tool Data Management) application, Kelch presetting equipment and FASTEMS Flexible Manufacturing cells
  • Experience supporting, contributing to or leading the delivery of manufacturing capabilities and projects

The Manufacturing Systems Competency team:

As part of a multidisciplinary Manufacturing Systems competency team, you will work closely with functional project managers, engineering and operations teams to deliver solutions into live manufacturing environments. The team focuses on deploying new OT capabilities, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and continuously improving how manufacturing systems integrate with plant equipment and wider business processes.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a background in IT, automation or controls engineering who is interested in developing their expertise within Operational Technology and manufacturing systems.
