Job Description

Job Title: Major Sub Contract Programme Manager

Location: Scotstoun and Govan – on site

Salary: Circa £70,000 dependant on skill and experience

Who we are:

Join BAE Systems and you’ll be part of something bigger. As a valued member of our global colleague network, you’ll bring your unique skills and perspectives to help pioneer progress and protect what matters most. You’ll be trusted to play your part in delivering the advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions of tomorrow, shaping a safer future, for all of us.

From the depths of the ocean, to the far reaches of space, there’s no limit to where a career at BAE Systems could take you.

What you’ll be doing:

This is an opportunity to join a high-impact team at the centre of the Type 26 Programme, managing major onsite subcontracted services that are critical to project success. Working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, you will ensure suppliers deliver against contractual commitments, driving performance, quality, and accountability. You will play a key role in resolving complex commercial and operational challenges, protecting Naval Ships’ interests and helping deliver world-class shipbuilding programmes. This role offers significant variety, influence, and opportunities for professional growth.

Core duties:

  • Manage assigned contracts, acting as Control Account Manager (CAM) with responsibility for budget control, forecasting, Estimate at Completion (EAC), and overall financial performance.
  • Maintain commercial and contractual compliance, overseeing change management, compensation events, governance activities, and contract administration.
  • Lead the negotiation and implementation of commercial agreements, contract amendments, and settlements to protect business interests and deliver value for money.
  • Drive supplier performance, ensuring delivery against contractual commitments, programme milestones, quality standards, and SHE requirements.
  • Provide commercial leadership across Programme, Engineering, Finance, Project Controls, and Supply Chain teams, while managing risks, opportunities, and key supplier and stakeholder relationships.

Essential skills:

  • Strong commercial, contractual and subcontract management expertise gained within a complex project or programme environment.
  • Demonstrable experience managing high-value contracts, budgets and financial performance, with a strong focus on cost control and commercial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders across multiple functions and organisational levels, driving collaboration and effective decision-making.
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and relationship management skills, with experience managing supplier performance and resolving commercial challenges.

The Major sub Contracts team on type 26:

You’ll join a team responsible for the commercial leadership and delivery of one of the most complex and strategically significant subcontract portfolios within the Clyde shipbuilding programme. Operating at the heart of a major defence programme, the team oversees commercial strategy, supplier performance and Control Account Management activities, ensuring the successful delivery of critical services. Through close collaboration with programme, engineering, finance and supply chain stakeholders, the team plays a pivotal role in driving performance, managing risk and achieving key programme objectives.
