Job Title: Logistics Category Manager

Location: Preston. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £60,000+ depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Commercial lead for key warehousing and outsourced service contracts within the Logistics Category across multiple UK BAE Systems businesses and sites
  • Responsible for executing stakeholder focussed category management of BAE Systems warehousing requirements in the UK
  • Managing the end-to-end procurement process for Logistics projects including contract renewals and framework procurement agreements; demand management; negotiations; sourcing events and supplier management
  • Be a subject matter expert within the logistics category developing and executing best-in-class procurement strategy
  • Collaborate with other Logistics stakeholders locally and globally to support global objectives
  • Manage and influence key business relationships and stakeholders in line with requirements
  • Proactive approach to managing contracts and framework agreement within the Logistics Category
  • Negotiate and agree contractual terms on behalf of BAE Systems, ensuring suppliers are appointed onto the appropriate terms and conditions
  • Working with key internal stakeholders, identify and propose new and updated procedures related to best practice in Procurement Category Management
  • Line management of a small team of procurement professionals
  • Supporting the Materials Handling and Packaging strategies of the business

Your skills and experiences:

Essentials:

  • Clear Commercial & Procurement experience in the Logistics category
  • Experience of Category Management
  • Proven track knowledge in contract negotiation
  • Working with large spend previously – at least £10 million+

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Contract Management – technical contract knowledge
  • Experience working within a logistics organisation
  • MCIPS qualified, or willing to work towards

The Logistics team:

The logistics category team comprises two other category leaders who are responsible for the procurement of indirect supplies to operational areas across all BAE Systems UK business units.

Key sub-category areas within this scope include transportation, outsourced warehousing services, material handling, packaging solutions, customs brokerage and show freight.

We are responsible for executing stakeholder focussed category management of BAE Systems logistics and warehousing requirements in the UK

We also manage the end-to-end procurement process for Logistics projects including contract renewals and framework procurement agreements; demand management; negotiations; sourcing events and supplier management.

Logistics is a rapidly evolving category with innovative solutions including 4PL and data-driven AI delivery and we are only just starting to fully exploit the benefits for the Global organisation
