Job Title: Lead Project Professional

Location: Filton, Broad Oak – Portsmouth, hybrid – 3 days on site 2 working from home -this role might include travel to other BAE Southern sites

Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

You will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative projects that support the Royal Navy’s future Hybrid Navy vision. Working within the Combat Systems business, as an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll help coordinate and control complex programmes spanning maritime autonomy, digital command and control, systems integration, and emerging naval technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of defence innovation, driving delivery across cutting-edge technology demonstrators, capability development activities, and future naval programmes that will shape the Royal Navy of tomorrow.

Core duties:

  • Lead and coordinate assigned project work packages, ensuring delivery to agreed cost, schedule, quality and performance objectives within a complex programme environment.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, forecasts, risk registers and governance documentation to support successful programme delivery and informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Product Management, Commercial, Finance, Supply Chain, customers and industry partners to drive project outcomes and resolve challenges.
  • Support the delivery of innovative Hybrid Navy initiatives, including technology demonstrators, experimentation activities, concept studies and future capability development programmes.

Essential skills:

  • Proven experience delivering projects within defence, engineering, technology, or other complex regulated environments, with responsibility for planning, risk, cost and schedule management.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, controls and governance, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels and drive delivery outcome

Partnering with technical experts, engineers, project professionals and senior stakeholders, you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative programmes that are shaping future maritime capability. The role offers exposure to a broad network of internal and external partners across strategic defence programmes, combining traditional project management with emerging technologies and future-focused initiatives.
