Role Description:

We have an excellent opportunity for an Infrastructure Engineering Manager – Structural based at Adelaide.

In early 2024, the Australian Government selected BAE Systems and ASC Pty Ltd to build Australia’s new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines in a significant development in the AUKUS trilateral security pact between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

As an Infrastructure Engineering Manager within the Maritime Business, you will be responsible for ensuring that infrastructure is delivered to the required standards in accordance with the contractual and company requirements.

The successful candidate will hold a pivotal role in the infrastructure team assuring infrastructure and facilities are safe, legal, compliant and fit for purpose and that will build and commission Naval vessels.

In this role, you will censor design, construction, and operational integrity to ensure all engineering work meets best practices and quality expectations, assuring the design of the facilities are safe and meet the contractual, legal and regulatory requirements, company standards and environmental requirements.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Structural engineering professional to shape the future of a major new site, establishing a new function, influence industry-leading standards, and collaborate with top-tier engineering and project management teams.

Core Duties:

  • Review Structural engineering design, construction, and operational standards providing technical and functional leadership and direction.
  • Arrange design certification reviews with Chief Engineer.
  • Develop and maintain Shipbuilder specifications, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Review and approve Structural engineering drawings, calculations, and models.
  • Monitor project designs and construction to verify compliance with established standards.
  • Conduct regular design and engineering reviews to assess adherence to best practices.
  • Provide technical support for resolving non-conformance issues.
  • Act as the go-to expert for complex engineering challenges within the discipline.
  • Provide technical guidance during design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Support decision-making processes by offering expertise on Structural engineering methodologies.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and contractors to ensure the project’s technical integrity.
  • Assist in risk assessments and mitigation strategies related to engineering aspects.
  • Participate in technical evaluations of vendors, materials, and equipment.
  • Assure that the design and construction align with the relevant standards and codes.
  • Champion the application of engineering Safety in Design to ensure operational and maintenance requirements are achieved.
  • Support value management activity to maximise the benefit to operations.
  • Establish an engineering assurance function for the shipbuilder.
  • Provide technical subject matter expert input in support of all the facilities as part of the shipbuilder maintaining a safe, legal and compliant site.

About You

  • Significant demonstrable Structural engineering experience, ideally experience in building infrastructure and site infrastructure in accordance with Australian building standards
  • Civil experience (desirable)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant Structural engineering discipline
  • Eligibility for accreditation as a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia.
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain NV1.
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR)
