Job Description

Job Title: Engineer – Seamanship

Location: Scotstoun, Filton, Portsmouth. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: Up to £45,000 dependent on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

• Produce Layout Drawings for Seamanship compartments for review by stakeholders and to allow Stage 2 to correctly model these spaces

• Update Windchill PLM with mature parts, systems, occurrences and compartment data to ensure it correctly presents the baseline design.

• Write and update Technical Equipment Specifications and co-ordinate with suppliers to ensure delivery to the agreed specification

• Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements

• Co-ordinate with systems engineers and detail designers on the integration of Seamanship systems

• Support HAZIDs and Safety Reviews as well as support Design Reviews and Zonal Reviews

• Make Engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority and undertake general business and other design and integration activities, in support of maturing the CSC design

• Liaise with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters and produce Procurement Pack documentation

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

• Knowledge and experience of naval and/or commercial ship seamanship systems with the experience to support system and spatial integration issues with other disciplines

• Seamanship includes the design or operation of boat handling systems, anchor and mooring equipment, RAS, Lifesaving and stores handling equipment

Desirable:

• Experience with 2D CAD software (AutoCAD) or experience of 3D CAD (FORAN)

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution.

Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

River Class Destroyer Naval Architecture Seamanship Team:

Small team of Engineers who work to provide specialist mechanical/marine engineering expertise to organise and co-ordinate significant aspects of engineering activity within the business to ensure defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and cost.

You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills and knowledge, with the potential to work towards becoming a Senior or Principal Engineer.
