About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our team within the JORN project.

The Electrical Engineer is accountable for the design and development of Electrical systems and/or equipment in accordance with the contractual and company requirements in order to achieve the required business performance. The position has no direct reports; however the role is expected to mentor junior members of the Power Generation team.

Occasional travel to remote Radar Sites will be required to support technical scoping activities and supervision of installation works.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and Review of Electrical Engineering Design Documentation.
  • Progression and Management of Electrical Engineering Projects from Inception to Incorporation.
  • Electrical Engineering Technical Projects Include (not limited to):
    • High Voltage System Design
    • Low Voltage System Design
    • Hazardous Areas Assessment and Design
    • Programmable Logic Controller Program and Design
    • Instrumentation and Control Design
    • EMI Testing
    • Generator Control System Design
    • Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems Design
    • Site Electrical Assessments
    • Earthing System Design and Testing
    • Condition Based Monitoring
    • Arc Flash Assessments
    • UPS Design
    • Management and Co-ordination of External Design Projects
    • Development of Labour and Material Estimates (BOE)
    • Development of strong relationships with site based and ADHOC project teams
    • Complete assigned JORN Sustainment engineering changes in accordance with applicable and project specific design change policies, procedures and work instructions. This includes contributing to and participating in Mandated System Reviews (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR etc)
    • Complete all allocated work in accordance with the schedule as per the Power Generation 11 Year Plan
    • Report progress on Engineering Change, S&Q and MPAAHS to the Power Generation Team Lead on a weekly basis through the electronic reporting mechanisms
    • Assist in performing real-time and retrospective fault diagnosis for system outage events
    • Conduct System Safety assessments using applicable process for Hazard Identification and Analysis
    • Liaise with the Team Leads to set career goals for professional development
    • Attendance at regular Continuous Training sessions to broaden knowledge base and to support CPD
    • Assist in analysis of system obsolescence risks and recommended solutions
    • Assist ILS team in conducting various ILS assessments of the JORN system
    • Contribute to team planning, risk management, product safety, quality and SHE
    • Develop and apply electrical knowledge of the JORN system, subsystems and units to understand the operation and requirements of the current system variants
    • Compliance with all System Security requirements
    • Work towards and achieve Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) through Engineers Australia (Assistance is provided by BAE in support of the applicant achieving CPEng)
    • Work towards attaining appropriate Technical Authority delegations within the specified engineering discipline
    • Participate in peer reviews for a variety of JORN Sustainment artefacts
    • Mentor new and junior engineers of the Power and Electrical team, as assigned by the Team Lead
    • Develop strong relationships with broader project team, including remote site personnel, contractors, operators and customer
    • Any other task as needed, to progress engineering changes through the workflow

About YOU

As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you’ll have:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Background in defence practices highly desired
  • Understanding of requirements analysis, design, verification and other systems engineering principles
  • Background working in a Technical Regulatory Framework (e.g. TAMM, TRAMM, NTRF)
  • Experience developing detailed engineering work packages
  • Background working in classified environments
