Job Description

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is home to 4,800 digital, cyber and intelligence experts. We work collaboratively across 16 countries to collect, connect and understand complex data, so that governments, nation states, armed forces and commercial businesses can unlock digital advantage in the most demanding environments.

The Digital Intelligence division of BAE Systems delivers solutions which protect and enhance the connected world. Everything we do creates a safer future. We help nations, governments and businesses around the world defend themselves against cybercrime, reduce their risk in the connected world, comply with regulation, and transform their operations. We do this using our unique set of solutions, systems, experience and processes.

The Apprentice Infrastructure Engineer is an entry level position for someone beginning a career in infrastructure engineering. You will work within an established engineering team and learn the architecture, design, delivery, operation and control of the IT infrastructure required to support our products and services. This includes server hardware, operating systems, storage, virtualisation platforms and local and wide area networking.

You will spend most of your time working alongside experienced engineers on customer upgrades, laboratory builds and project delivery. Tasks will be allocated with clear instruction and reviewed before they reach a customer environment. As your competence grows, the level of supervision will reduce and the complexity of your work will increase.

This is a learning role. We do not expect you to arrive with the skills listed below. We expect you to arrive ready to acquire them.

  • An interest in computing, networks and how systems fit together, supported by evidence such as home laboratory work, personal projects, coursework or prior study
  • Sound written and verbal communication, particularly the ability to record what was done and why
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, including a willingness to follow a procedure exactly when the environment demands it
  • A methodical approach to fault finding
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to plan personal workload with support
