Role Description:
As the Business Manager Technical & Engineering Services (TES), you will be responsible for leading a team to ensure successful delivery of projects which includes meeting customer requirements and ensuring the ongoing financial viability of projects is maintained. You will also be responsible for managing the customer relationships and representing the project within customer forums where financial performance and project business operating model are being considered for both current business and future prospects.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead a group of professional, multi-functional project staff both directly and indirectly to provide a holistic business performance and control service which enables confident decision making based on the provision of quality information in a timely manner
- Responsible for customer relationship management ensuring the goodwill of the customers is maintained
- Provide expert support to the Project Manager to derive and implement improvements to performance
- Monitor, communicate and challenge financial performance of the project in delivery on commitments against agreed targets including sales, profit and cash
- Manage and present monthly reports on rolling forecasts, Contract Status Reviews, risk and opportunity, cash flow, business improvement KPI’s and other relevant business information
- Drive a business improvement culture with respect to people, process and systems to continually focus the project on opportunities to improve performance and efficiency
- Identify training and development requirements within the project team
- Identify project opportunities and risks and ensure identified mitigation strategies are implemented and effective throughout contract phases
- Develop and assess business cases for the purposes of business improvement.
- Capture and bid prospects of a size that is relative to other TES projects, or of an adjacent or organic nature within existing projects.
About You
You will have:
- Demonstrated experience in project control/ management, ideally gained in a defence or technical (i.e. mechanical/electrical) environment
- Demonstrated experience in conducting business analysis and leading financial review and reporting activities
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management, with the ability to motivate individuals and teams across a number of business areas
- Excellent knowledge of budgeting and cost analysis
- Exposure to contracts with sound financial acumen to develop and work with simple financial models
- Demonstrated customer relationship management with the ability to balance conflicting priorities to deliver against customer and business requirements
- An ability to negotiate and influence internal and/ or external stakeholders in a way which generates business benefit whilst maintaining key relationships
- A continuous improvement mind-set
- Qualification in Business Management (highly desirable)
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a defence security clearance

The Defence Sustainment and Solutions (DSS) Team deliver specialised sustainment services and products that optimise performance, extend asset longevity, and ensure the operational readiness of the Australian Defence Force, National Security, and their coalition partners.
