Location: Portsmouth Broad Oak – Minimum 3-4 days onsite

Salary: Up to £60,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

Role Description:

Support the successful delivery of Torpedo Development projects by contributing to technical leadership, project delivery and team coordination. You will assist in managing scope, schedule, budget and risk, ensuring engineering activities are delivered effectively and integrated across wider programme teams. Working at Senior Engineer level, reporting into the Programme Lead, you will provide day-to-day technical guidance and administrative supervision to engineers, supporting high-quality engineering outputs and project objectives. The role offers the opportunity to develop project engineering leadership capability while contributing to the delivery of complex defence systems within a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.

Core duties:

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery and performance of assigned projects, contracts, suppliers and work packages, ensuring objectives are achieved safely, efficiently and to agreed timescales.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee the work of engineers and technical specialists, ensuring project tasks are delivered to the required quality, cost and schedule.
  • Allocate and manage work activities, monitor progress and provide guidance to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Provide engineering leadership within a defined discipline or specialist area, supporting the development and delivery of technical solutions and engineering activities.
  • Support the development and performance of team members through coaching, training, feedback and performance management activities.
  • Assess the technical suitability and feasibility of engineering solutions, providing recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Apply technical expertise to resolve complex engineering challenges and support the successful delivery of project objectives.

Essential Skills:

  • You’ll have experience managing project risks, costs, budgets, schedules, quality, resource utilisation and stakeholder relationships, ensuring projects are delivered effectively and efficiently
  • You’ll have strong project coordination and planning skills
  • You’ll have an analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial and programme performance data
  • You’ll have an understanding of project management governance and lifecycle management processes
  • CEng (or equivalent) or working towards Chartership is desirable
  • You’ll be able to work collaboratively across multifunctional teams in a complex project environment

The Sting Ray Mod 2 team:

You will be joining a team with a focus on underwater weapons, playing a key role in delivering upgrades and re-designs to the Sting Ray weapon system. As the programme transitions into the next stage of development, you will contribute to the evolution of a world-leading torpedo capability, supporting long-term upgrade, manufacture and sustainment activities for years to come.
