Job Title: Appointed Person – Lifting Operations

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base – Fully On-Site.

Salary: £39,000 (plus shift allowance & overtime)

What you’ll be doing:

You will work with in the lifting Operations department, working within Workshop facilities or afloat areas for repair and the manufacture of projects for our Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers.

You will safely and professionally deliver planned and reactive maintenance on a variety of equipment within the key performance indicator criteria while adhering to the working time directive. This includes preparing lifting plans as required by Team Leader, provide technical advice and support for lifting to client as required. You will be required to carry out slinging duties when not functioning as an Appointed Person.

Core duties:

  • You will confirm compliance to all policies, procedures, standard operating practises, with recommendations for action and continuous improvement
  • You will ensure all equipment, plant and accessories being used/operated are in test/examination date and in a safe, useable condition
  • You will guarantee all work is to be undertaken law all relevant site rules, regulations which include LOLER and PUWER, standards and company policies
  • You will complete all administrative tasks in conjunction with the role i.e. as part of a team and assist in creating risk assessments, pre-use check sheets, standard/complex lift plans etc

Essential skills:

  • You will successfully have undertaken an AP training course, and have suitable practical, theoretical knowledge and experience to fully understand all aspects of lifting operations
  • You will be knowledgeable of the following: LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, BS7121 Part 1 and 3
  • You will have good Health and Safety procedural understanding
  • You will have a good understanding of SSOW
  • You will hold both a recognised Appointed Person & Slinging qualification (Blue card / CPCS / NPORS), alongside demonstratable knowledge/experience or hold an NVQ 5/6 in this area

The Slinging & Lifting Fleeting Team:

As a part of the lifting team, you will be required to plan all lifts from basic, intermediate and complex, also completing drawings to scale either by the traditional methods or using the relevant software. You will liaise the project via your Team Leader for all things lifting. This can include being part of the slinging and fleeting team instead of operating as an Appointed Person.
