Job Description
The Senior Employment Tax Manager plays an important role, combining strategic advisory support with employment tax compliance activities. The role ensures the business meets all employment tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions while proactively identifying risks, legislative changes, and opportunities for improvement. Working closely with the wider Tax team, HR team and other cross‑functional partners, the Senior Employment Tax Manager will guide the business through complex employment tax matters, lead tax authority interactions, and drive enhancements to processes, controls, and automation.
The Details
- Act as a key point of contact for HMRC and other tax authorities, managing audits and enquiries in the UK and internationally.
- Act as a primary point of contact for employment tax matters internally and provide practical and timely employment tax advice to relevant business functions based on an understanding of the market and specific business area.
- Provide employment tax input to policies and procedures, including benefits/recognition schemes, termination payments, off-payroll workers, equity schemes and global mobility.
- Work closely with the Payroll team, Reward team and our external advisors to obtain, implement and regularly review employment tax advice, to ensure tax reporting and withholding obligations are met.
- Contribute to a wide range of projects and business initiatives across the UK and international markets, including new ventures and activities in new locations).
- Support the Payroll team with clear, well‑prepared responses to UK and international payroll queries.
- Lead employment tax compliance including (but not limited to) the following:
- Managing the preparation and submission of the PSA;
- Reviewing P11Ds;
- Managing the preparation and submission of Employment Related Securities (ERS returns);
- Managing global mobility compliance including tax returns, s.690 agreements and CoCs; and
- The preparation and submission of STBV returns.
- Provide training to improve relevant stakeholders’ understanding and knowledge of employment tax issues and reporting requirements relevant to their area of work.
- Keeping on top of global employment tax legislation changes and sharing relevant updates quickly with teams across ASOS.
- Identify and manage employment tax risks and opportunities and support the wider tax team with tax governance workstreams. This includes supporting with SAO reporting requirements and maintaining tax risk trackers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce risk and support the deployment of appropriate technology.

Qualifications
About You
- Significant experience in employment tax advisory and compliance with substantial management experience, ideally gained at a consultancy firm and in-house within a large or complex organisation.
- Proven experience in dealing with complex employment tax matters in multiple jurisdictions and delivering advice and projects to a business covering all aspects of employment tax (including global mobility and equity).
- ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent qualification
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, resolve conflicting interests and obtain co-operation.
- Experience in working with senior business stakeholders across multiple disciplines and geographies and simplifying complex employment tax requirements for non‑experts.
- Experience working with third parties including tax authorities, tax and payroll advisers and third-party providers.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams, building strong business relationships and managing different priorities and expectations.
- Well organised, good project management skills and able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritise and work in a fast paced, evolving environment.
- Experience in utilising technology to support the delivery of employment taxes compliance obligations, manage risk and improve processes.
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Strong Excel skills, with experience in Power BI or Alteryx an advantage.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset, with the confidence to question and challenge.
