APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be apart of our journey.

What We Can Offer:
At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Exposure to end-to-end terminal marine operations and vessel planning activities
  • Opportunities to build specialist expertise within the Marine function
  • A collaborative environment focused on safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Ongoing learning through structured training and practical on-the-job experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute pilotage services, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels within port limits
  • Plan and coordinate vessel movements to optimise berth utilisation and tidal windows
  • Assess and monitor environmental conditions such as tides, currents, weather, and visibility during operations
  • Coordinate closely with tugboat operators, mooring teams, pilot boat crews, and vessel planning teams
  • Review vessel particulars, passage plans, and berth limitations prior to pilotage operations
  • Ensure compliance with port regulations, national maritime laws, and internal standards
  • Report navigational hazards, near misses, and marine incidents, and contribute to safety improvements
  • Maintain accurate records of pilotage movements and operational documentation
  • Participate in emergency response situations requiring Marine Department support
  • Mentor and support the development of Marine Pilot trainees
  • Engage with port authorities, vessel agents, and customers to ensure efficient operations and communication

What We Are Looking For:
Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.

Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently puts customers first, leads by example with respect for people, delivers results with integrity, and drives continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.

  • Licensed Marine Pilot recognised by the relevant maritime authority
  • Certificate of Competency (minimum OOW Class 3, unlimited) with strong seagoing experience
  • Valid STCW certifications, including sea survival and firefighting, and a valid seafarer medical certificate
  • Proven experience in handling large vessels within harbour environments, including use of conventional and tractor tugs
  • Strong understanding of tug operations and vessel traffic management systems
  • Ability to analyse complex marine situations and make sound operational decisions under pressure
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce accurate reports
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external maritime stakeholders
