Shape the Future of Water Infrastructure with Anglian Water

Do you have a passion for civil engineering and a drive to deliver innovative, cost-effective design solutions? Are you motivated by collaboration and the opportunity to work on complex water or wastewater infrastructure projects that truly make a difference to communities?

If so, this is your chance to join Anglian Water as a Civil Engineer, where you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of essential clean water or wastewater projects across the region.

We’re looking for a skilled engineer with strong technical knowledge and a proactive mindset. You’ll bring creativity, rigour, and problem-solving ability to ensure our projects are safe, sustainable, and delivered to the highest standards.

At Anglian Water, we’re Always Exploring – innovating for a resilient water future. By Doing the Right Thing, we commit to transparency, fairness, and professional growth. And by Building Trust, we put safety, quality, and collaboration at the core of everything we do.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Civil Engineer, you’ll support the full project lifecycle – from feasibility studies and optioneering through to detailed design and construction. You’ll ensure compliance with technical standards while seeking opportunities for innovation and efficiency.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing designs and coordinating input from multidisciplinary teams
  • Applying British Standards and Eurocodes in the design of reinforced concrete structures, pipelines, open channels, and related infrastructure
  • Producing design sketches, reviewing models, and contributing to CAD and modelling work
  • Ensuring all designs comply with DSEAR, CDM, and health & safety requirements
  • Preparing design documentation including Pre-Construction Information (PCI), Health and Safety Files, and Quality Assurance Files
  • Attending and documenting site surveys, reviewing opportunities, risks, and mitigation plans
  • Preparing briefs for topographic and ground investigations and reviewing results
  • Monitoring project progress against time, cost, and quality, and reporting deviations where required
  • Supporting technical queries during construction, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and cost-effectiveness of any design changes
  • Driving innovation by researching and introducing new processes, tools, and ways of working

About You

You’re a motivated and collaborative civil engineer with a strong technical background and enthusiasm to learn and grow. You thrive in a team environment, build trust through integrity, and bring energy and resilience to every challenge.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • A BEng or MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering (minimum 2:1 degree classification)
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete design and application of British Standards/Eurocodes
  • Proven experience in the design and delivery of buried pipework and pipelines, including both pressure and gravity systems
  • Understanding of hydraulic principles for open channel and closed conduit flows
  • Experience designing civil engineering structures within the water/wastewater industry
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as TEDDS, Staad Pro, AutoCAD, Robot, Civil 3D, or Revit
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical sketches and reports
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and a collaborative working style
  • Drive to achieve chartered status with the ICE or IStructE

It would also be beneficial to have:

  • Experience of producing design risk assessments and applying risk management principles
  • Familiarity with survey techniques including laser scanning and drone surveys
  • Awareness of SAP and financial management procedures
