Airbus Helicopters is the world’s largest helicopter manufacturer and the company’s site at Oxford Airport is Britain’s civil helicopter hub.

AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance and spares support. Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation,
flight-testing and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.

AHUK is the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its No.1Helicopter Flying School (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).

Description/Overall purpose of the Job
The Customisation and Development team is responsible for the on time, on cost, on quality delivery of helicopter retrofit projects to the UK MOD, National Police Services, Air Ambulance and VIP customers. The careful management of project tasks is essential to ensuring we meet the expectations of both the business and our customers. The Project Manager role is therefore essential to ensuring the successful delivery of complex, multi-million pound projects in a dynamic and challenging environment.

As a Project Manager for the Customisation and Development team you will be responsible for the delivery of AHUK contracts throughout the project life-cycle in accordance with AHUK procedures, tools and methodologies. You will also play an important role in developing those procedures for the future. Project Managers report to the AHUK PMO Manager and will be supported by the wider PMO team.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful OTOCOQ delivery of multiple projects at any one time and achieving the project objectives to the satisfaction of both AHUK and the customer.
  • Successful management of project risks and opportunities to the benefit of the customisation team.
  • Provide strong leadership, professional project management experience and excellent stakeholder management across multiple workstream contributing to project success.
  • Behave as a role model while robustly implementing and developing AHUK PMO processes, methodologies and tools.
  • Ensuring adherence to Customisation KPI’s for schedule and cost control (SPI &CPI), risk management and lessons learnt.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential

  • A proven track record of delivering successful engineering / aerospace projects
  • Leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Leading the process of structuring, planning and delivering complex projects and the tailored deployment of best practice project controls
  • Directing project activities aligning with the baseline and critical path, with a focus on proactive risk and opportunity management and controlling variance to time/cost/quality
  • Project financial and contractual management
  • Representing projects through established governance, giving an evidence-based account of progress and distilling key risks/opportunities/support needed for Senior Management
  • Current SC clearance is a must have
  • Understanding of EASA, UK CAA and UK MAA regulations

Desirable

  • Background within an aviation engineering environment
  • Experience with Primavera P6
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with customer facing roles
  • Experience in a Pt21 environment
  • Capture and/or Bid Management experience

Education, Qualifications or Training

Essential
• Formal project management training at practitioner level - APMP, Prince 2 etc.
• Background in aerospace / aviation
• UK driving licence

Desirable
• Formal aviation engineering background is desirable but not essential

Additional requirements

  • Due to the nature of this position you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance.
  • Applicants must meet any/all requirements of Export Compliance Regulations.
  • Applicants must be willing to travel as part of the role.
  • The role is based on site at Oxford airport, Killington. Remote working is not available for this role.
