In order to support our ZEROe team, Airbus Operations is looking for a

Masterand student (d/f/m), title of thesis: Virtual Sensor & State Estimation Development for Fuel Cell Systems

Your location

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry.   • Your tasks and responsibilities

    • Conduct a comprehensive literature review on virtual sensing, state estimation, and model-based diagnostics for fuel cell systems.
    • Develop and implement models for fuel cell system components relevant to virtual sensing (e.g., degradation, performance).
    • Design and evaluate virtual sensor algorithms to infer unmeasured system states and parameters.
    • Implement and validate state estimation techniques (e.g., Kalman filters, Extended Kalman Filters, particle filters) for fuel cell systems.
    • Utilize simulation environments (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python) for model development, algorithm testing, and data analysis.
    • Analyze the performance and robustness of developed virtual sensors and state estimators under various operating conditions and fault scenarios.
    • Document research findings, methodology, and results in a comprehensive Master's thesis.
    • Present progress and results to the Airbus ZEROe team regularly.

    Desired skills and qualifications

    • Enrolled full-time Master's student in the area of Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
    • Strong academic background in control theory, system identification, estimation theory, and data analysis.
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python.
    • Familiarity with fuel cell technologies and their operation principles is a plus.
    • Experience with model-based development and simulation tools is desirable.
    • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and solve complex problems.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, German is a plus.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
