Airbus Protect is a multi disciplinary Engineering Consultancy, specialising in Sustainability, Safety and Cyber technologies. Airbus Protect is a Consultancy within the Airbus Group, supporting both Internal and External business needs. This allows us to work on interesting projects within the Airbus group as well as work outside the usual aircraft domain.

We have an exciting opportunity to support the wider Airbus business in the development of aircraft and the fuel that will drive our Net Zero ambitions. We are currently looking for an Aerospace Fuel Systems Design Engineer with experience in either Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) or fuel sciences to join our Airbus Protect Sustainability Team in Filton.

The role ...

  • The immediate role is a Consulting R&T position, working with the Fuel Sciences department in Airbus Commercial. This will support the development of the future aircraft that will operate with SAF;
  • Assess the impact on the future aircraft fuel system design (and interfacing systems) when operating with SAF, and ultimately support the development of the future fuels that will power it;
  • Perform roles that require internal interfacing with Engineers, Certification Specialists and Procurement, and external interface roles such as supplier and vendor management;
  • Lead and support the management and completion of deliverables to the customer, to meet the project milestones as per the Systems Development Process and Project lifecycle;
  • Support and Lead Project Management activities in the support of meeting deliverable targets to the customer;
  • Support phase reviews and Validation and Verification activities, ensuring activity meets safety and technical needs;
  • Authoring technical reports, including design drivers, architectures, and test results;
  • Support the development of the Certification standards, as well as the new system architectures and equipment for a future aircraft.

  • As a Consultancy, be open to working in a wider technological field.
  • This role also requires you to use your skills and be adaptable to work on projects beyond the immediate scope in the Fuel Systems (and even aircraft) domain. You may be required to support bid activities, and support Airbus Protect's wider work portfolio in the Sustainability Domain.
  • In the future there are opportunities to work beyond the initial scope of this advertised role, and work on other systems (such as ZEROe or Landing Gear), platforms (such as Cyber or other non aircraft platforms) or specialisms (such as Safety or Sustainability).

Are you the one ?

Experience required:

  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline relevant to aviation system design
  • Experienced Engineer with 3 years of experience with minimum, ideally supporting Aircraft Fuel system design activities.
  • Comprehensive Knowledge in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or Fuel Chemistry, and its application within the Aerospace industry, including Regulations & Standard.
  • Knowledge in systems based engineering including requirements management and Validation & Verification all the way through to certification are welcome.
  • Experience in Life Cycle Assessment of SAF is desirable.
  • Experience of Project Management is desirable.

  • Strong ability lead and manage a project team (i.e Work Package management);
  • Team player, keen to share their knowledge and work collaboratively within a fairly small team;
  • Customer centric and able to build relationships in a matrix environment;
  • You have very good communication and negotiation skills;
  • You are autonomous, curious, proactive, rigorous, with great attention to detail;
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
