Our Flight and Integration Test Centre (FITC) is looking for a dedicated Flight Test Safety (SMS) Manager (d/f/m). In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety of our personnel and materials. Join our international team and work across our sites in Manching, Getafe, and Sevilla.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Proactively prevent accidents and incidents, identify potential hazards, and mitigate related risks.
  • Implement, operate, and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) in collaboration with various internal organizations.
  • Serve as the direct point of contact and responsible party for UK MAA Regulatory Articles regarding Aviation Safety regulations.
  • Manage the internal Safety Group, review and contribute to the internal SMS Manual, and support investigations.
  • Handle Hazard and Event Reports within the FITC perimeter, ensure proper investigation and potential escalation, and conduct Predictive Hazard and Risk Assessments.
  • Maintain and develop Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs), keep statistics to identify trends, and support internal and external audits related to DOA and FITC.
  • Stay updated on new trends and procedures in Safety Management from external sources.
  • Ensure constant Safety Awareness through regular Safety Messages, Safety Awareness sessions, Lessons Learned meetings, and required training for all Safety Group members.
  • Support Airbus Group-wide Safety promotion campaigns.

Desired skills and qualifications

You will offer:

  • Strong proactive and ethical attitude to improve and maintain the Safety Culture within the FITC.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Understanding of external and internal safety regulation frameworks, including hazard identification and risk mitigation for Flight Test Operations.

You benefit from:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a Flight Test Organization, preferably with a military aviation background, as a test pilot or with an engineering degree with first-hand experience in flight test techniques and procedures.
  • Graduate of a recognized Test Pilot School.
  • Understanding of technical issues for a diverse fleet of test aircraft (combat, tactical transport, and tanker aircraft).
  • Formal SMS training or education.
  • Engineering experience within a Design Organization.
  • Understanding of Airbus DS internal working structures and organization.
  • Experience in designing and publishing Safety promotion materials.
  • Knowledge of auditing and DOA framework.
  • Experience in flight operations within a Flight Test Department, preferably with a military background.
  • Knowledge of Human Factors and Crew Resource Management, both in theory and practice.
  • Experience in investigation techniques and understanding of the confidentiality of safety data.
  • Willingness to travel for business.
  • Negotiation-level English, German and/or Spanish is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite tools.
