BANKING SME — FUNCTIONAL EXPERT
Brings deep functional expertise in banking processes and domain knowledge to consulting and implementation programmes. The primary contribution is a thorough understanding of how banks operate — their products, processes, regulations and organisational dynamics — enabling project teams to design and deliver solutions that are genuinely fit for purpose in a banking context.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the banking functional reference on engagements, ensuring solutions align with banking business realities.
- Capture, analyse and document detailed business requirements in close collaboration with client stakeholders.
- Define and validate functional specifications covering processes, data, business rules and controls.
- Bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Lead or contribute to functional workstreams within banking transformation programmes.
- Provide domain expertise during pre-sales and solutioning phases, including RFP responses and product demonstrations.
- Identify business risks and functional gaps in proposed solutions.
Experience & Background
- Minimum 6–8 years of experience in banking, within a financial institution or in consulting/implementation roles.
- Deep understanding of banking products, processes and operating models.
- Proven ability to engage with senior business stakeholders in a banking environment.
- Experience in banking transformation programmes (core banking migration, payments modernisation, digital banking launch, regulatory programmes).
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks (PSD2, AML/KYC, Basel III, IFRS 9).
- Nice to have: Platform knowledge on any Temenos, Oracle Banking, TM, Mambu, Intellect Design, SAP,
Banking Domain Specialisation
Candidates are expected to demonstrate depth in at least one of the following domains, and working familiarity across several others:
- Core Banking: Deposits, Lending (retail/commercial), Mortgages, Insurance, Securities; knowledge of BIAN framework is valued.
- Payments: SEPA, SWIFT, High-Value Payments, Card Payments (issuing/acquiring), ISO 20022.
- Digital Banking: online/mobile banking, Open Banking / PSD2, customer onboarding.
- CRM & Customer Engagement: Salesforce FSC, MS Dynamics or equivalent.
- Risk & Compliance: credit risk, operational risk, AML/KYC, regulatory reporting.
- Cards & Loyalty: card issuing/acquiring, scheme rules (Visa, Mastercard).
Other Requirements
- Fluent in English, written and spoken; additional languages are a plus.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills; comfortable leading workshops with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to produce clear, high-quality functional documentation.
- Working familiarity with Agile project delivery methodologies.
- Familiarity with AI tools as part of day-to-day working practice.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
- Fluent in English, written and spoken.
- Analytical mindset with willingness to learn and grow in a consulting environment.
- Good communication skills; ability to work in multicultural, distributed teams.
